Event Description:
What is Elder Law?
Elder law is a growing field of law that deals with the issues faced by the fastest growing population: seniors. With the goal of asset protection and aging in place, this area of law combines parts of Long Term Care Planning, Medicaid Planning, Estate Planning and Veteran’s Benefits, where applicable, to address the concerns of seniors as they live longer.
With proper planning (getting your ducks in a row), you can protect your hard-earned money from the devastating cost of nursing home, perhaps even allowing yourself to stay in your home rather than move into a nursing home. You can do this without selling your house, without depleting your life savings, without leaving your spouse penniless and still leave an inheritance to your children.
Local Attorney Michael L. Brumbaugh will share with you:
  • How to avoid having your life savings wiped out by a nursing home spend down.
  • How the new law restricts protection of assets and the steps you should take now to protect your loved ones. The asset protection language that most people don’t have in their power of attorney documents, which can help protect their life’s savings.
  • Veteran’s benefits that most people know nothing about.
  • How Medicaid works and the steps you need to take now to protect your family under the new rules.
  • How to protect assets even if a family member is already in a nursing home.
  • How to avoid government liens placed on a senior’s real estate.
  • Senior Care options for independence; planning for today and the future.
